You can fasten metal pieces to other metal objects, or you can attach metal to another surface like plastic, aluminum, plywood, hard rubber or wood. Cap and machine screws are used to clamp machine parts together, either when one of the parts has a threaded hole or in conjunction with a nut. These screws stretch when tightened, and the tensile load created clamps the parts together.

anchor bolts
Anchor bolts are designed to attach structural elements to concrete. In our industry, anchor bolts are typically used to attach steel to concrete. One end is embedded into the concrete, while the opposite end is threaded to attach structural support.

Carriage bolts are a type of hexagon bolt specialised for use in woodworking, in particular, fastening metal to wood. Carriage bolts are designed with a domed head, which can prevent loosening from one side, an enlarged head shape also prevents the bolt from being pulled through a wooden construction
elevator bolts
Elevator bolts are threaded fasteners with a thin body and round head. These bolts may have either a square or ribbed neck to stop bolts from turning when a nut is tightened. They are used in tight spaces with moving parts such as in elevators and conveyor belts
flange bolts
Hex flange bolts are used on vehicle frames, especially truck frames, and anywhere a hex washer head bolt is needed. The large bearing surface distributes clamping force over a large area, allowing them to be used with irregular and oversized holes.
